Imphal, March 11 2019:
A team of the Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) left Imphal for Delhi today to lobby for Presidential assent to the Manipur People Bill.
Notably, MDA comprises of BJP, MPC, LJP Manipur unit, PDA, NPF Manipur unit, NEIDP, MNDF, NPP AAP and Shiv Sena Manipur unit.
Speaking to media persons at Babupara before leaving Imphal, Shiv Sena Manipur unit president and MDA convenor M Tombi remarked that the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was not introduced in the Rajya Sabha on account of the vehement opposition raised by the people of Manipur.
Noting that BJP president Amit Shah vowed to bring back CAB in case BJP is re-elected to power after the Lok Sabha election, Tombi said that MDA would demand a special status of Manipur like Kashmir so that indigenous people of the State are protected from any demographic threat.
He said that they were going to Delhi to seek Presidential assent to the Manipur People Bill which was passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on June 3, 2018.He said that they would call on the President, the PM and the HM and urge them to give due consent to the Bill.
