Imphal, July 04 2021:
All India Forward Bloc, Manipur state committee has said that there is no change in the irrigation system of the state even though BJP government made very loud and noisy 'Khunggang Chatsi' slogan.
According to a statement issued by the state unit of All India Forward Bloc, no proper irrigation system has been made for paddy fields of the state particularly in the four valley districts for the past 60 years despite these fields being the key food producing area of the state.
Though huge amount of fund was sanctioned by successive governments from time to time, there is no sign of any improvement in the irrigation system of these paddy fields and it is still difficult to find out an area having proper irrigation network, the statement said, adding that irrigation dams constructed with huge money remain incomplete while completed projects are not functioning properly.
The present government made a very loud slogan 'Khunggang Chatsi' during its initial period but there has been no significant improvement in agriculture sector and proper irrigation system remains a distant dream for farmers across the state.
Farmers have been facing problems in paddy cultivation due to absence of irrigation system and their problems increased with scanty rainfall received by the state since the past one decade or so, the statement said, adding that paddy fields of the state remain dry even though the time for sowing paddy seeds is almost over.
It then urged government to take up necessary steps to provide water to paddy fields before the sowing season lapsed.
