Truck association repairs 'Govt neglected' Tamenglong - Khongsang road

As the Tamenglong-Khongsang road continued to remain neglected by the Government, the Truck Association Tamenglong on Wednesday organized a social work to repair potholes along the road stretch.
Due to the deplorable condition of the road, the district truck association suspended transportation service along Tamenglong-Khongsang road since few weeks back.
However, the association decided to resume the service on Wednesday to solve the problem of shortage of essential commodities in the district.
The association repaired the potholes between Tamenglong and Akhui located some 15 kilometres from the district headquarters.

Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Association Tamenglong along with frontal organizations of Tamenglong had called a 96-hour chaka bandh in Tamenglong on September 19 demanding improvement of the Tamenglong- Khongsang.
After the assurance from district administration, the forum called off the agitation.
Speaking to the reporters at th e work site, Trucks Association Tamenglong President said that as no one cares for the road, the association has decided to repair it.
He said that the drivers were facing many problems due to the pathetic condition of Tamenglong- Khongsang road.
"In case if something happens, the drivers were blamed for carelessness", he added.
He also appealed the responsible authority to immediately start the road improvement work.
Representatives of Zeliangrong Union Tamenglong Zone said that the hard work of drivers should be recognized by everyone.
SP Athui, Chairman Zeliangorng Union Tamenglong Zone said that many civil society organizations of Tamenglong had imposed bandh and strikes and many memorandums were submitted to the Government.
While condemning the district administration and local MLA, Jenghemlung Panmei for neglecting the road, SP Athui Chairman, ZU Tamenglong said that the local MLA did not visit the district where bandh and strikes were called to demand maintenance of the 39 km-stretch of Tamenglong-Khongsang road.
He also appealed to the concerned authority to immediately restore the road as the Government of India has sanctioned more than Rs 12 crore for the purpose.
