Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal today ordered simple imprisonment of six month with a fine of Rs 10,000 to an engineer of the Power Grid Co-operation of India who has been accused of misappropriation of funds as government servant.
The accused engineer has been identified as Angom Sharatchandra alias ASB of Ningthoukhong ward no.1 of Bishnupur district.
He is working as junior engineer grade-I of the Power Grid Co-operation of India, Imphal Sub-station, Yurembam.
A judgment of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal on December 16 last convicted him of misappropriation of public fund under section 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and announced the term of sentence today.
The ruling awarded six month simple imprisonment to the government servant with a fine of Rs 10,000.If he failed to pay the fine, his sentence will be extended for another six months.
According to the charge sheet submitted to the CJM, in 2001-02, a demand draft of Rs.2,08,000 bearing no.1200802803 sent to to the senior accountant, Islamuddin of Power Grid Co-operation of India Limited, Loktak Project, Yurembam, Imphal was received by Sharatchandra.
The amount was dispatched from the RHQ, NERTS Shillong as non-refundable CPF advance.
The junior engineer instead of handing over the demand draft to accountant conspired with some other persons and misappropriated Rs 88,000 and handed over the rest amount Rs 1.20 lakh to the accountant, Islamuddin.
Sharatchandra withdrawn the amount by opening an account in the same of Islamuddin and deposited the DD.
After then, he handed over Rs 1.20 lakh to Islamuddin with fake PF slip, the charge-sheet alleged.
