Imphal, April 06 2009:
Alleging that MUSU and MU authority have maintained partiality in dealing with the two incidents of assaults within the campus few days back, some students of Manipur University have staged a sit in protest today at the University campus to register their annoyance against the MUSU executives and MU authority.
Protestors today asked whether the MUSU executives as well as the MU authority are not seeing students of the university as one.
They complaint that the MU authority and MUSU maintained silence over the assault of two hostellers of the university on April 4 last by unidentified miscreants while the MUSU and MU authority had condemned the assault of MUSU president and his colleague by staging a sit in protest against the assault.
It may be mentioned that MUSU president, Ksh Narayan and his colleague, Milan were assaulted by DESAM volunteers in the students' home of the university on April 3.A sit in protest was held the next day at the front of the University's Main Gate against the assault.
As the sit in protest was going on, some unidentified persons had gone inside the hostel of the university and later assaulted two hostellers.
A press statement released in connection with the protest said that the statement made by MUSU that the assault of the two students was a drama is a jeering instance.
It said that the MUSU act fast to state such thing fearing that students of the university would surely make public the drama.
It said that the main role of the drama has been played by the MUSU, while the MU authority acts as the parents.
It said that the ones which can be stirred up were the State forces.
The statement further said that there were the security personnel when the hostellers pursued the unknown miscreants on the day when the incident occurred that was also known clearly to the MU authority.
It also said that innocent students should not be victimised in the wrestle between the two involving parties.
The statement also strongly takes an exception to the attitude of the MU authority who said that the matter will be condemned via media, but who keep silent still.
Categorically denouncing the silence maintained by the MUSU and MU authority in dealing the two issues, the protestors have said that the incident was a testimony to prove that the unidentified miscreants who assaulted the two hostellers were MUSU, Security forces and MU authority who are staging a drama within the university campus.
Protestors have also shouted slogans against the bias attitude of MUSU and MU authority, and placards like 'don't terrorise innocent students' etc were displayed today.
