Imphal, April 26 2022:
Denouncing removal of several topics including Islamic Empires from the syllabus of class 10, 11 and 12 of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president MLA Keisham Meghachandra has termed the step as an attempt to demolish the education system and diversity of the country.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, the Congress MLA said that CBSE has removed topics on non-align movement, The Cold War Era, The Rise of Islamic Empires in Afro-Asian Territories, The Chronicles of Mughal Courts, and Industrial Revolution from the syllabus of History and Political Science of class 11 and 12 .
In class 10, the Board removed 'Impact of Globalisation on Agriculture' from 'Food Security' chapter and Urdu poems written by Faiz Ahmed Faiz from the chapter 'Religion, Communalism and Politics Communalism, Secular State' .
Apart from these, CBSE has also removed several course contents from the chapter 'Democracy and Diversity', and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had raised strong reaction against the move in his tweet, the MLA said.
He termed the move as an attempt to hide a portion of history from the younger generations to fit right-wing narratives and agenda of BJP.
It will have serious implications on the education system of the country, he said.
India is a country with diverse religions, cultures and languages, which gave birth to the term 'Unity in Diversity'.
Each community has their own culture and history, and obscuring their history will only create misunderstanding among them.
However, since BJP came into power, the party is trying to impose its one nation, one religion and one language formula.
Such attempt will put the integrity and unity of the country in danger, he said, while demanding CBSE to review its decision and withdraw it.
