Many hail Mirabai Chanu's Tokyo feat

Elated over the silver medal win for state's Olympian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in Women's Weightlifting 49 kg category, several individuals and organisations extended congratulations to the ace sportswoman and presented gifts to her family members.
In a press release, All Manipur Sports Association extended its heartiest congratulations to Mi-rabai Chanu on winning silver medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 .
The association also wished her success in her future endeavours.
All Manipur Students' Guardian Organisation also extended congratulations to Mirabai Chanu and appealed to the state government to award her a post no less than SP in honour of her achievement.
On the other hand, staffers of UCO Bank Lamlong Bazar felicitated the parents of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu at her Nongpok Kakching residence in Imphal East district.
In a release UCO informed that memento and Lengyan Phi each was gifted to the parents of the Olympian.
The staff also wished Saikhom Mirabai success in her future.
Seva Bharati Manipur and Krida Bharati Manipur also presented gifts to the parents of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on her achievement.
Rajya Sabha MP titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and former chief minister Okram Ibobi also congratulated Mirabai Chanu on winning the historic silver medal at Tokyo Olympics on the first day of the mega global sporting event.
In a message, Leishemba Sanajaoba expressed happiness on the achievement of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who won a silver medal in weightlifting, and also wished the other Indian athletes success in their endeavour so as to bring more medals.
At the same time, former chief minister Okram Ibobi has termed the achievement of Mirabai Chanu as an inspiration for women of not only Manipur but also of the entire country.
While congratulating Mirabai on her achievement, Ibobi conveyed his wishes that may her success encourage the younger generation of the state to work harder and emerge as world class sportspersons.
On the other hand, CPI state leaders went to the home of Mirabai and celebrated the achievement with her parents at Nongpok Kakching on Sunday.
The CPI team led by state secretary L Sotinkumar also interacted with local residents and conveyed wishes for Mirabai to achieve more success in her future endeavours and win gold in the next Olympics.
While congratulating Mirabai Chanu for winning the first medal for India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Saturday, Northeast Frontier Railway's chief public relations officer Subhanan Chanda said the Railway fraternity will relish her splendid performance and for making everyone proud.
The officer also recounted that Mirabai created the world record of 119 kg in clean and jerk at the 2021 Asian Weightlifting Championships held at Tashkent, in April 2021 part from the Khel Ratna awardee having won the gold in Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast Australia, 2018 .
She also represented India at the Rio Olympic Games, Brazil, 2016 .
Mirabai Chanu was promoted as Officer on Special Duty (Sports) in the NF Railway in April, 2018, the officer said in a statement.
