Imphal, May 24 2020:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has appealed all heads of villages, clubs and organisations to extend possible assistance and cooperate to the drivers/handymen engaged in ferrying essential commodities and returnees from Jiribam.
Strongly condemning stigmatisation of the drivers/handymen and ill treatments meted out against them, AMUCO, in a statement issued by its assistant general secretary, MM Thambou, said the organisation has met the drivers/handymen at Langjing Achouba vehicle park and enquired about their grievances.
They were provided with drinking water and AMUCO president Nando Luwang assured all possible assistance.
He also conveyed to them that former president of UNC (United Naga Council), Gaidon Kamei has also assured all possible assistance and maximum cooperation with them, said the statement.
Further, appealing all not to stigmatise them and pointing out the importance of their services, AMUCO said that the State would be paralysed if the drivers/handymen take their hands off steering wheel.
Due to the various ill treatments meted out against them amidst the COVID-19 lockdown, they are on the verge of taking this extreme action (hands off steering wheel), said AMUCO adding all should encourage and appreciate their dedication and service at this crucial time.
