Ranjita killing: Mob set ablaze house, brick field of alleged killer

A day after the JAC formed against the murder of Ranjita stated that government should take responsibility for any untoward incident arising out of the demands for arrest of killers, the irate mob of Yairipok area set on fire the house of the alleged killer Laishram Ibomcha of Ataobung Bazar at Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai today afternoon.
As the JAC brought back the dead body of Ranjita from JNIMS today morning, a huge crowd of people gathered at the Ngarian foothill staged a massive rally.
In spite of the tight security security measures put in place to prevent any unwanted happening, the angry people began hurling stones at the house of alleged killer Ibomcha at round 12 noon.

As the police fired teargas shells to control the mob, irate people attacked the police personnel, who in turn blasted more teargas cells and retreated to defend themselves. Amidst the mayhem, an angry mob burnt down the house and the brick field at Kakmayai Mamang Loukol belonging to Ibomcha who is alleged to have involved in Ranjita's gruesome murder after sexual assault at her own paddy field.
The family members of Ibomcha had already fled from the house before the mob arrived.
Laisharm Ibomcha, son of Laishram Birsing Meitei of of Ataobung Bazar at Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai has been allegedly involved in the murder of Ranjita.
The mortal remains of Ranjita were cremated in the afternoon with floral offerings by the people.
It may be mentioned that the JAC had agreed to accept the body of Ranjita, who was found brutally stabbed to death after sexual assault at her paddy field, during a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Wednesday.
The JAC collected the dead body following the assurance given by the Chief Minister that the culprits would be arrested at the earliest.
The meeting with the CM was also participated by family members of deceased Ranjita, local MLA Meghachandra, MLA Shyamkumar, Minister M.Okendra, Imphal east ZP Adhyaksha K.Tombi, ZP member Kh.
Sobha, Pradhan S.Kumar and representatives of the JAC and Meira Paibis.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reportedly called up the concerned police officers to book the killers at the earliest.
