Police remand for family members accused of murder

Imphal, May 06 2017:
Three
family members accused of
murdering a young housewife
Lunglailu Rongmei were
produced before the Chief
Judicial Magistrate, Imphal
East today and were further
remanded to police custody till
May 12.
The accused persons
namely Khuraijam Inaocha @
Nenith (husband), his sisterin-
law Ashalata Devi and
mother Mema Devi of
Chingmeirong Kabui Khul
were produced before the
Court under FIR number 121
(5) 2017 Lamphel police station
under Section 302/34 of
Indian Penal Code.
They have been remanded
further to police custody till
May 12.
Investigation Officer of the
case submitted before the
Court that a written complaint
was lodged by one
Lanbunglung Rongmei yesterday
at around 9.30 pm that
Lunglailu Rongmei was found
murdered on her bed with her
throat slit yesterday at around
3.30 pm and suspected that
the murder was the handiwork
of her husband,
mother-in-law and other family
members.
He stated that a team of
Lamphel police arrested
Inaocha, his mother-in-law
and sister-in-law at around
4.10 pm yesterday and during
preliminary interrogation the
deceased's husband claimed
that he found his wife lying
dead on their bed.
He prayed the Court to
grant seven days police custody
for the accused for
further investigation of the
case.
The Court heard the
prayer and the reasons for
their arrest were made known
to the accused family members.
The Court asked them
about their right to choose
their lawyer for their defense.
After going through the
accusation against the accused,
the Court remanded
them to further police custody
for seven days till May 12.
In the meantime, locals
today stormed and destroyed
the house of victim's husband
Khuraijam Inaoton at
Chigmeirong Kabui Khul.
Timely intervention of
Imphal East police prevented
further untoward incident.
JAC constituted against
the murder to Lunglailu
Rongmei has demanded the
State Government to take up
stern action and deliver justice
to the victim.
A public meeting was
held today at the community
hall of Chingmeirong Kabui
Khul which was organised
by Zeliangrong Union (Assam,
Nagaland and
Manipur).
The meeting was attended
by a large number of people
and members of various
Rongmei organisations including
Rongmei Luh
Phuam, Kabui Mothers' Association
(Assam, Nagaland
and Manipur), Zeliangrong
Baudi (Assam, Nagaland and
Manipur), Zeliangrong Youth
Organisation, Zeliangrong
Students' Organisation,
Rongmei Youth Organisation,
Chingmeirong Village
Authority and Meira Paibis
of Chingmeirong area.
During the meeting, a
JAC against the murder of
Lunglailu was also formed.
JAC member Panti
Golmei who is also the
president of Rongmei Luh
Phuam said, "Killing of
Lunglailu is very unfortunate
and condemnable.
The authority
concerned should
look into the case seriously
and punish the culprit(s) in a
befitting manner" .
