Imphal, May 06 2017:
The 7th anniversary of the 'martyrdom' of Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo was observed today at the Martyrs Park, Mao Gate.
Speaking at the anniversary function organised by the Mao Council and the Mao Students' Union under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC), UNC general secretary S Milan said that the State Government has been terrorising Naga inhabited areas of Manipur since a long time back.
The State Government has been enforcing draconian laws in Naga areas and Naga dominated districts for too long.
He urged the Government of Manipur not to play with the sentiments of Naga people.

While informing that the tripartite talks held between the State Government, the Central Government and the UNC were able to create certain conducive conditions, the UNC general secretary exuded confidence that the new State Government would redress the grievances of Naga people.
Mao Council president Dili, Mao Council general secretary A Athili Kayina and Mao Students' Union president A Mayili too attended the anniversary function where many representatives of NSF, NPMHR, ANSAM, Naga Hoho, NWU and Kalinamei Women Society were also present.
The function was marked by offering of floral tributes and observance of one minute silence in memory of the two 'martyrs' .
The gathering also adopted a declaration which says that the Naga people in Manipur will hold steadfast the conviction and commitment demonstrated by Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo.
The May 6, 2010 incident that broke out at Mao Gate opened the flood of unmistakable facts that called for immediate settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
"We are not safe, our lives and properties are not safe, our land is not safe, our culture and traditional practices are not safe, our political aspirations as a people are not safe, our dignity and honour is not safe, our future is not safe, all that matters to the human person and to us as a people are not safe, till that time an honourable and acceptable settlement to the Indo-Naga issue is put in place", reads the declaration.
"we also manifest our unwavering commitment to the world to the political aspiration of the entire Naga people for which thousands have made the ultimate sacrifice through the years", it mentioned.
