Ministerial team inspects landslide-hit area, commends rescue workers

A ministerial team comprising CAF and PD minister L Susindro, health minister Sapam Ranjan and Assam's water resource, IPR and parliamentary affairs minister Pijush Hajarika inspected the ongoing search and rescue operation at landslide hit Makhuam village in Noney district on Saturday.
Speaking to media persons, minister Susindro informed that that ministerial team inspected the area under the supervision of chief minister N Biren.
While stating that the government is putting all its efforts to find all the missing people including entire members of a family of the village, Susindro asserted that rescue operation will continue till all the missing people are recovered, dead or alive.
Thanking all those taking part in the rescue operation, he also informed that his department brought edibles for the rescue workers.
Health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan also said that ongoing rescue operation will speed up if weather condition improves and the government has sent additional forces to join the rescue operation with equipment.
Minister Ranjan also lamented that the natural disaster claimed the lives of many persons including Territorial Army (TA) personnel, civilians and railway staff and workers and it has left not only the people of Manipur in a shock but to all over the country.
The state government will extend all possible help in the rescue and search operation, he added.
The ministerial team also had a discussion about the strategies of the ongoing search and rescue operations with the experts.
On the other-hand, Assam minister Pijush Hajarika said that he came to inspect the landslide hit area following instruction of chief minister Himanta Biswa as many people from the state are feared killed in the landslide.
So far, bodies of seven people from Assam have been recovered and five are undergoing treatment at hospital, he said, adding that altogether 15 people from Assam are still missing including one Railway officer.
The rest are workers of a construction company, he added.
According to Pijush Hajarika, mortal remains of those from Assam who lost their lives killed in the landslide will be taken to their respective native places while Assam government is ready to welcome those survived when they returned to the state.
He also said that rescue operation will continue till finding all the missing people.
Later, minister Susindro handed over edible items brought by CAD & PD and PHE departments for the rescue workers to DC Noney.
CAF & PD commissioner Bobby Waikhom, CAF & PD director Robertson Asem, PHED chief engineer Shangreiphao Vashumwo and other engineers of department also accompanied the ministerial team.
A team of Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) also inspected the landslide hit area and handed over edible items and first aid kits to the rescue workers.
The MDA team included Shjv Sena president and MDA convener M Tombi, MDA vice chairman Ph Jilashana Sharma, co-convener K Khagendra and others.
