Saikot MLA distributes planting materials

Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip distributed planting materials as an alternative to poppy cultivation to farmers of 6 assembly segments of Churachandpur at the District Horticulture Office campus on Saturday.
Speaking during the event, Paolienlal expressed his heartfelt thanks to CM N Biren Singh for launching the War on Drugs 2.0 due to which a congenial atmosphere has been created in such a way as to instil interest among poppy growers/farmers towards plantation of horticulture crops.
This resulted in arranging a way for them by the government in consultation with the Horticulture & Soil Conservation department, he said.
The Saikot MLA further said that seeds of horticulture crops which would help them generate income and sustain their economy were given free of cost, while hoping of bringing a change in crops cultivated by the farmers.
He also expressed his happiness for being the one who flagged off the ambitious project/scheme.
Lhingneikim Lhungdim, AO Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Churachandpur, said that after the state government launched the War on Drugs 2.0 and subsequent to steps initiated by the department for replacement of poppy plantation, various horticultural crop seeds were distributed to the farmers on Saturday.
Two farmers from Tipaimukh AC were given Kachai Lemon seeds and pineapple saplings, while rest of the farmers from the area were provided cashew nut seeds, lychee saplings, and sacks of gingers and turmeric.
In the same way, farmers of Singngat, Henglep, Saikot and Churachandpur were given plating materials, according to the AO .
