Kuki body hands over relief items for rescue workers

The Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL), GHQ on Saturday provided a large amount of packaged drinking water, fruit juices, cakes and other edibles items for the rescue workers engaged to recover the bodies still lying buried under the debris of the landslide at Makhuam village in Noney district.
The aid was handed over to the Noney deputy commissioner Haulianlal Guite in the presence of Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYO) president Daichuipou.
The DC highlighted the measures taken up to recover the bodies still lying under the debris.
The handing-over of aid took place at the camp of 107 Territorial Army, which is also known as the Tupul Yard Railway Construction Camp, where all security forces and philanthropic organisations are stationed to conduct the rescue operation.
KKL vice president Pauzangam said as a philanthropic organisation it was extremely shocked over the unfortunate landslide that swept the entire 107 Territorial Army Camp at Tupul Yard Railway Construction Camp bn the intervening night of June 29-30 .
The intensity of the landslide was so terrifying that the entire yard camp was swept down to Ijai river.
The Territorial Army and state security personnel have been stationed at the Railway Yard Construction Camp to safeguard the railway construction equipment and ensure smooth progress of the construction work of Jiri-Imphal rail route.
The unfortunate incident claimed the lives of 24 persons, including armed personnel, construction workers and civilians, while 39 others are still missing, he noted.
"We, the Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi, come today to take stock of the situation and provide minimal refreshment to the rescue workers.
We, also would like to make it known to the authorities that we are for every possible help we can offer to the rescue mission and are ready to support with manpower if and when required", the KKL vice-president further said.
The KKL also expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, NDRF and SDRF for their swift and relentless effort in the rescue work.
