Imphal, October 28, 2009:
In order to off load the heavy customers rush on SBI's Automated Teller Machine (ATM) booths and bank counters, the State Bank of India (SBI) authority is planning to set up an ATM Hub in Imphal soon.
In an exclusive chat with this reporter, the Chief Manager (Personal Banking Division) of SBI Manipur Branch, SM Goswami, said an ATM hub of the SBI is coming up soon to relieve of the heavy rush of customers on ATMs and Bank counters.
SM Goswami is optimistic that installation of an ATM hub in town will relieve the customers from forming long queue.
He noted that the network of the ATM booths has been often disrupted due to the poor connectivity of BSNL service.
This is one of the unforeseen debacles faced in the state.
Another inconvenience is the unsystematic use of ATM machineries by customers which is also responsible for the unpredictable machines run out.
Goswami informed that an ATM hub will be installed at the SBI head office located at MG Avenue.
At least five ATM booths will be installed in the ATM hub apart from installing an automated passbook printing machine.
He believes that the installation of ATM hub will be one of the leverages of technology in providing services to its customers at the closest possible destinations.
On the non-availability of new currency notes of Rs 5 and Rs 20, the manager said the two standard currencies have been in low circulation elsewhere.
He however said that the bank has been ensuring the availability of Rs 10 currencies in plenty keeping in mind the need of the currencies by the people for all religious and social occasions in the state.
He said, anyone could get new notes of Rs 10 anytime.
Goswami further informed that it is unauthorised to exchange torn currency notes at higher rates which has been commonly done along the roadside.
He added that changes are available at banks instead of buying' them at markets.
He said, at least Rs 15 crore of old currency notes has been replaced with new currency notes from the state in the interest of the public.
