Imphal, October 28, 2009:
Family members protested the claim of the police that the casual driver of a senior minister, Sagolsem Okendro and his brother S Ojit of Khurai Thoidingjam were apprehended as members of a proscribed outfit.
Talking to reporters today at the Manipur Press Club, mother of Okendro and Sanjit, Sagolsem (O) Chaoba said, both her sons were innocents.
She said her elder son Okendro has settled with his family.
Chaoba said, on October 24, two persons came at their house to inform that the medical check-up for the two brothers for recruitment into the police will be re-conducted.
At that time, the two brothers were out of station.
Okendro was called from the minister's house.
The two persons then made Okendro to sign a four paged documents.
Two of the pages were left with Okendro while the two persons took back the remaining two pages after getting the signature of Okendro, Chaoba narrated.
She further recounted that, the two brothers went to the headquarters of 4th IRB located at Koirengei the same day.
Later they were told that their medial re-examination was postponed for October 26 due to the absence of the doctor who was assigned to examine them.
The same day around 6.30 pm, a caller who identified himself as 4th IRB jawan informed them to appear for medical re-examination on the next day (October 25) before 10am instead of October 26. The two brothers were not at their home at that time too.
The wife of Okendro informed the two brothers through a friend's phone about the matter, she told.
Wondering how the police could arrest them after summoning for medical re-examination, Chaoba further categorically rejected the concocted' claims that the two brothers were members of proscribed UG group.
Refuting the claims that arms were recovered from their possessions, the mother also demanded that the recovered arms' be produced before the public.
She also draws the attention of the authority concerned that the reports in the media be clarified.
