In compliance with the Union Government's directive, the State Home department has revoked the detention order of MPP general secretary Yumnam Khemchand - who was detained under National Security Act (NSA) for alleged misuse of his license gun.
Khemchand was subsequently released from jail today.
According to source, the MPP general secretary was sent to jail on September 7 last according to an order issued by the Imphal West District Magistrate.
The State Home department has been intimated by the Union Government (vide Message no 11/15023/165/2007 NSA detain 19-10-09) on October 23 stating that the detention of Khemchand under NSA was unjust.
As per the Central's missive, the State Home department has, on October 23, revoked the detention order issued by the Imphal West district Magistrate on September 7.After releasing Khemchand from the cases for which he was charged earlier, police have set him free from jail today around 4.30pm.It may be mentioned that Y Khemchand was arrested on September 4 by the Singjamei Police on alleged charge of misusing his license gun on September 3 around 10pm near Singjamei Bazar.
Singjamei police had filed an FIR case against Y Khemchand under Section 307 of IPC, Section 25 (1-b) of Arms Act, and Section 70 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act.
After producing him before Deputy Magistrate, Imphal on September 5, he was remanded into police custody till September 7.On September 7, Y Khemchand was detained under NSA according to an order issued by the District Magistrate of Imphal West.
He was further remanded into 15 days judicial custody by an order of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal the same day.
The MPP had strongly protested the detention of MPP Secretary Y Khemchand under NSA saying that it was unwarranted.
