Imphal, August 17 2013 :
With no usable toilets available in Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, the students of the school have been compelled to go outside the school campus and use toilets of the locality.
This was disclosed by S Kumar, Principal of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School to a team of media persons who went for an inspection visit along with members of DESAM today.
He further informed that there are altogether 1107 students in the school.
The number of students in this school has been increased this year to a great extent because of the strict instructions given by the Education Minister to admit all students who come seeking admission.
With such a huge strength of students enrolled in the school, the school does not even have a usable toilet for the students.
As such, out of compulsion, the students are given permission to go out of the school campus to ease themselves.
And the students find themselves landing on the neighbour's toilet to respond to their nature's call, the headmaster said.
He went on to inform that altogether 108 students of class XII Arts are being made to sit in a single room.
Since there are no sufficient teachers to teach the students in separate classrooms, all the students are being taught in a single room.
The teachers find it very hard to teach the students.
They have to shout at the top of their voices to make the students at the back benches heard.
And the students also find it hard to grasp what the teachers are writing on the black/white board.
The Principal said that there are at present 25 teachers in the school and it still lacks around 58 teachers.
The matter has been highlighted to the concerned authority but no positive response has been received so far.
"The classrooms that are being used today have been constructed at the time of establishing the school.
The quality of the new classrooms that are constructed is so poor that it is not being used till today due to fear of it collapsing at any moment", the Principal said, adding that the drainage system has also completely failed and the school campus is always flooded during rainy season.
Wangmayum Islamudin, President, DESAM, while interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, stated that since the Education Minister had so boldly announced to admit all students seeking admission in Government schools, he should also be bold enough to provide the required infrastructures and appoint the needed teachers.
The Minister should have the guts to visit the schools and find out the problems faced by the students.
Merely sitting in his office and doing just table work will not bear fruit, he maintained.
He also pointed out that the Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School has today become an institute which is unfit for students to get education.
Though there are separate laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany, there is only one laboratory attendant for the entire school.
Islamudin also expressed amazement over the engagement of three Primary teachers, who have been appointed under SSA, in the school.
