Demonstration on rescue tools held

A one-day 'training cum demonstration on security surveillance and rescue equipment' was held at Manipur Fire Service headquarters under the joint aegis of Manipur Fire Service and Mumbai-based Solaroy Engineers (Pvt) Ltd.
As a representative of the Mumbai firm its East and North East Zone deputy manager Ashok Mukherjee explained on the multiple usage of Combitool accessories by pointing out that the said equipment could easily cut through steel bars in building collapse situation to reach the victim(s) and similarly reliable in rescuing people locked inside vehicles.
Listing hydraulic lifter, control unit, compact power unit, cutter and pneumatic tools as some of the components of Combitool equipment, Ashok also demonstrated on the application of another equipment called Morpho detector (hardened mobile tracer) in detecting explosive devices.

The latter equipment costing Rs 32 lakhs are already in use in Chandigarh city and Rajasthan State, the deputy manager informed.
Speaking at the occasion, Manipur Fire Service Director Kh Chandramani said today's event is a part of the Mumbai firm's awareness programme on rescue operations in the North East region.
Recounting that Combitool was used in rescue operation when a building collapsed at near Singjamei Super Market some years back, the Director said the equipment was possessed by the State fire department at Rs 3 lakh.
With regard to Morpho Detector, he exuded confidence that the equipment would be very much relevant and effective in Manipur as recent trend indicate that subversive elements are more inclined in using explosives.
The programme was also attended by DIG (R-IV) Dr S Ibocha, SP (chandel) E Priyokumar, AD (MPTC) RK Tutusana, AD (MPTC) Th Shyamsunder, Relief & Disaster Management Research Officer Ak Ranjit and SDPOs T Lalboi (Thoubal) and W Singhajit (Mayang Imphal) .
