Imphal, December 09 2015:
The proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) on Wednesday greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
A statement signed by PREPAK Assistant Secretary, Publicity and Propaganda Leibak Ngakpa Luwang stated that oppressed people(s) have been fighting for their rights since time immemorial but they have always been suppressed by a bigger power.
However, human rights movement emerged in 16th century Europe and in the 18th century, independence movement in the United States (1776) and the French Revolution (1789) emerged, added the statement.
The outfit stated that Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted and proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 10, 1948 at Palais de Chaillot, Paris.
However, "the Government of India has suppressed the human rights of people in the colonial Manipur as the country adopted democracy only for name sake," alleged PREPAK.
"Though the British colonial power had already left, short-sighted India continued to annex border nations and imposed draconian laws such as AFSPA in WESEA and Jammu and Kashmir to suppress human rights.
Under the act, Indian Army are continuously allowed to commit genocide and the Government of India is still trying to continue its mission as evident from the hearings of Supreme Court in connection with the cases of fake encounters in Manipur", alleged the outfit.
The statement also alleged that Government of India continues to suppress human rights in Manipur even after National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Amnesty International, India strongly condemned the fake encounter cases in Manipur.
