First ever 'Indigenous Games Festival of Manipur 2015' to begin from today

The first ever three-day Indigenous Games Festival of Manipur 2015 will kick started from December 10, Thursday onwards at Manipur University Hockey Field with an aim to preserve and promote the indigenous games of the State.
The three-day festival jointly organised by DD Sports, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Imphal and Indigenous Games Association of Manipur will include indigenous games such as Mukna-Kangjei, Sagol-Kangjei, Kang, Mukna, Cheibi, Yubi-Lakpi and Thang-Ta.
In a press meet held in connection with the festival at Manipur Press Club, Imphal Programme Head of DDK Imphal and Organising Committee Chairman of the festival AK Khogendra stated that CEO of DD Sports has shouldered a big responsibility in organizing the festival which will be held with an aim to showcase the indigenous sports of Manipur to the people of the country and the world.
Mentioning that some games during the three-day festival will be held in the form of competition, AK Khogendra also appealed the people of the State to take part in the first ever indigenous festival and shared responsibilities while promoting the indigenous games of Manipur.
DD Sports and DDK Imphal will live telecast the festival with an aim to make people of the country understand the indigenous games of the State.
On the first day, the live telecast will be broadcasted from 11.30 am till 4 pm while the live telecast will be broadcasted from 12 noon till 4 pm on the second day and the last day of the festival, added AK Khogendra.
Attending the press meet, DD Sports Channel Advisor Abhishek Dubey stated that CEO of Prasar Bharati and Director General of Doordarshan has been suggesting since a long time to take up special measure and let the people understand the various indigenous games in the country.
As per the suggestion, Indigenous Games of Mizoram was held for the first time in the country and made the people understand of the indigenous games.
The Indigenous Games of Manipur will be held as a second edition of the mission, added Abhishek Dubey.
It may be mentioned that Manipur which is also recognized as the powerhouse of sports has various indigenous games.
These various games not only promote the culture of Manipur but also promote the culture of sports.
The festival, which will be held with an aim to make the people of the country understand the rich indigenous games of Manipur, will also help in moving the country's sports in a new direction.
Sources said that around 65% of the total populations in the country are under the age group of 35 and these sections of people do not fully understand the various indigenous games in the country.
All India Radio, Imphal Station Director M Kanandkumar, DDK Imphal Deputy Director Engineer V Venkatesulu, DD Sports Assistant Director R Ramachandra Rao also attended the press meet.
An E-browser souvenir of the festival was also released during the meet.
