Resource persons in the one day orientation cum awareness program on Renewable Energy held today at Town hall, Ukhrul gave much stressed upon the usage of solar, hydro, wind, geothermal, biomass and tidal energy.
The awareness program organized by Ecological Useful Productive and Social Development Organization (EUPSDO), Manipur in association with Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA), Manipur under the sponsorship of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt.of India and Govt.of Manipur was attended by Shri.
Ashok Kumar Singh (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul and Shri Y Phungshok, Principal, Patkai Christian Academy as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Shri.
Kaphungkan Shimray, President, Tangkhul Naga Chief Association, Ukhrul and Shri.
K.Wungshim, Headman, Chamu village, Ukhrul graced the function as guest of honour.
Highlighting MANIREDA's role and achievement in renewable energy, Dr..YKullachandra, Scientific Officer, MANIREDA said 160 villages of the state has been electrified by solar systems.
6500 solar lanterns, 3500 solar home light and 850 solar street lights have also been installed so far.
Renewable energy is becoming a mission for India, so MANIREDA is to develop, propagate and implement all renewable energy related program in Manipur, he added.
Dr L Dinachnadra, Sr Scientific Officer, MASTEC while speaking on Source of Renewable Energy & its importance and application said, renewable energy can be replenished easily and is pollution free.
It also fights against global warming.
Being a hilly region North East Region has the potential to generate 58711 MW hydro-power which comprises 40% of India's hydro power potential.
Improvement of infra-structures will lead the region into power house of the country especially in the field of hydel projects, said Ch.
Sarat Singh, Scientifis Officer (Engg), MASTEC.
Th Uthan, State Awardee also elaborated in depth on Solar & Nuclear Energy and its importance and application giving much knowledge to the students who filled the town hall.
