Imphal, February 20 2011:
The coordinator of the Ukhrul unit of All India Open School has been kidnapped in Ukhrul district with his captors demanding ransom for his unharmed release, official reports said today.
Bennyson Jajo (34) of Ngarumphung village of Ukhrul, who is also engaged in government contract work, was abducted along with his driver N Retueoning when they were traveling on a Maruti Gypsy (MN01K-8403), on Friday near the Shankai village along the Imphal-Ukhrul section of NH-150, the report said.
Some armed miscreants suspected to be activists of an armed group active in the district forced to stop the vehicle at gunpoint on their way back to home from Lambui village, police said.
They believe that the kidnappers were after money, because Jajo is a contractor, currently engaged in the improvement of Litan-Lambui inter-village road.
He might have been kidnapped with percentage demand from the contract work, they added.
