124th raising day of Manipur Police observed

Recalling the raising of the State Military Police on October 19, 1892, the 124th Raising Day Parade of Manipur Police was observed with great pomp on Monday at the 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also the Home Minister lauded the sheer hard work of the Manipur Police Department.
He said that Manipur Police earned a great reputation for itself in dealing with difficult situations in containing insurgency problem of 40 different groups and in maintaining law and order problem as well.
Though the insurgency problem can be solved through political dialogue, the Manipur Police is tasked with the crucial job of making the atmosphere conducive to peace talks and negations with the UG groups as well as ensuring the well being of the people, apart from its normal duty of prevention and detection of crime and maintenance of law and order, Gaikhangam said.

The personnel are imparted training for safeguarding the human rights of all individuals while performing their duties, he said.
He stated wrong doers among them are promptly punished while good work done by them is encouraged and motivated by giving rewards and medals.
While addressing the function, DGP of Manipur Police Shahid Ahmed recounted that under the command of the then Manipur Political Agent Crawford, on this day, October 19, 1892, the Manipur Police originated with the raising of a small force called Sate Military Police.
The force had strength of 463 personnel only and later it became the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles, the DGP said.
It was a humble beginning for the State Police which is now considered one of the best police forces in the country which has a sanctioned strength of about 33,700 personnel, Ahmed added.
With the help of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS), criminal records of one police station can be accessible to all police sataions in the country, the DGP said.
The system was launched under the sponsorship project of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the State last year, Ahmed informed.
He said the Counter-insurgency and Anti-Terrorism (CIAT) School located at Jiribam will soon be made fully functional.
He said GPS Vehicle Tracking Device will be installed in as many as 150 police vehicles.
In order to prevent crime in Imphal Municipal area, the department has put in place an elaborate Action Plan like manning of 105 duty points and deployment of 2500 police personnel, the DGP of Manipur Police added.
In order to give a sense of security to the public, about 100 CCTV cameras are already installed in the bazaar area and more such cameras will be installed in Singjamei and market areas of Impahl East.
As part of the programme, Deputy CM Gaikhangam inspected the parade and distributed certificates of commendations to 33 police officers including Constables for their outstanding contributions in different fields.
PG Singsit, IPS, Commandant 8th India Reserve Batalion (IRB) was the parade commander on the occasion.
Cabinet ministers, Rajya Sabha MP Haji Abdul Salam, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, police officers and other ranks of of the police force also attended the function organised by Manipur Police Department.
