Imphal, August 19 2013:
Necessary steps have been taken up to make the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at important locations of Imphal City functional, DGP Y Joykumar told Hueiyen Lanpao today.
He further said that the CCTV cameras have been installed for the purpose of smooth surveillance and traffic regulation.
A team of engineers would arrive here on Wednesday to make the CCTV surveillance system functional soon.
The engineers are from the Bangalore-based Meltronics Company, which has installed 100 CCTV cameras at 66 locations including surrounding areas of Chief Minister's Bungalow in Imphal City for the Phase-I of this ambitious surveillance project, the police chief noted.
Joykumar maintained that half of the installed cameras are left non-functional due to erratic power supply of the State.
The engineers would be asked to make all cameras functional by providing the power 24X7.Moreover, the company would be given the Annual Maintenance Charge (AMC) for regular maintenance of these electronic devices, he added.
It may be mentioned that the culprits in the bomb attack at the Chief Minister's Bungalow could have been known if the CCTV cameras were functional.
The police are still clueless about the attackers.
The cameras were installed about three years back, but they could not help in the surveillance.
The culprits involved in various crimes in Imphal City are often at large due to failure of the surveillance system.
