Chandel rallies against arson at school

Chandel, August 19 2013:
In protest against setting ablaze the administrative block of Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School on August 15, a mass silent rally was taken out at Chandel district headquarters today.
The rally, which was participated by around 1000 people including students of different schools, was taken out upto DC office complex via Japhou Bazar.
Later, a memorandum was submitted to Chandel DC regarding the incident.
Maintaining that School Development and Management Committee and teachers and students of Chandel district have taken serious note of the incident, the memorandum requested the Government to take up necessary steps to avoid similar incidents in future.
It also demanded that the culprits be punished at the earliest.
The rallyists held placards that read as 'make education a hostile free zone', 'we strongly condemn the barbaric act.
of burning down school', save education save generation' and 'we want a healthy education atmosphere' etc.
Meanwhile, different civil society organisations of Chandel district have strongly condemned burning down of administrative block of the only Government higher secondary school of the district.
In a joint press release, CNPO, ANTA, LNKK, CLAM, SUR, MUA, BAP and TTU said that the act is tantamount to directly challenging the struggle of the people of Chandel for quality education.
The organisations also urged the law enforcing agencies to act swiftly and arrest the culprits.
