World Photography Day celebrated

As in other parts of the globe, World Photography Day was also observed in the State under the aegis of Manipur Amateur Photo Club (MAPC) at Manipur Press Club here today.
The observance was marked by paying of floral tributes to the departed souls of those photographers of the State who have done exceptionally well in this field as a mark of respect.
Gifts were also presented to veteran photographers of the State on the occasion.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th Lokeshore observed that though the value of photography was not known in the State earlier, its importance and benefits in the society has been very well acknowledged today with the emergence of various photographers of international repute.

Today we have a come a long way in the field of photography.
The photographs collected by different well known photographers of the State today will certainly provide the required information to the upcoming and future generations about the past.
Though few of the photographers of the past were not given the required acknowledgement, the photographers of the present generation have been given their due share today.
They should be given the respect they deserved, the Speaker added.
He further stated that the State of Manipur is suffering as there is a trend of everything being divided into two with varied ideologies.
At this point of time, the photo journalists of the State should not capture and publish picture which could create chaos and disturbances in the society.
They (photo journalists) should not be carried away by the desperate desire to achieve awards for their photographs.
They should capture and publish photos in newspapers and magazines which could do well to the society and bring changes for the better.
Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, President, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), who was also present on the occasion as one of the Guests of Honour, stated that a single photo of a photographer can express more than a thousand words.
As such, there is no exact price of a photographer's work.
Now there are a number of good photo journalists in the State.
Even in news papers, photos can be the main leading news.
He also informed that a photo gallery would be opened shortly in Manipur Press Club.
Presided over by Yambem Laba, President of MAPC, the celebration was also attended by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar as Chief Guest while MLA TN Haokip and ex-MLA Bijoy Koijam as Guests of Honour.
