Ukhrul, July 16 2014:
A high delegation of Naga bodies led by Naga Hoho would visit Ukhrul on Thursday to assess the ground realities in the district and has scheduled a closed-door meeting with the Tangkhul frontal organisations to deliberate on the volatile situation after the recent assassination of Autonomous District Council (ADC) member.
A highly placed source said the Naga Hoho would lead a high delegation team to get a first-hand report of the ground realities in Ukhrul town and convene a closed-door meeting at 1 PM with Tangkhul frontal bodies.
The visiting team would comprise delegates of United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Naga Women Union Manipur (NWUM), Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) and Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) .
The meeting would deliberate on ways and measures to resolve the volatile situation prevailing in the town that has been witnessing heavy deployment of security forces and causing an air of fear and uncertainty among the public.
On Monday, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) submitted a three-point representation to the state Governor and set 24-hour deadline with effect from Tuesday 5 PM for giving a positive response.
The memo urges for revoking prohibitory order, unconditional release of arrested cadres and return of documents and properties seized from NSCN regional office.
The State government, in retaliation to the assassination of ADC member Ngalangzar Malue on July 12 at Finch Corner by armed assailants, moved in additional forces to the district headquarters and a prohibitory order under section 144 of CrPC Act has been clamped in Ukhrul town since Sunday.
The state forces also raided NCSN (IM) regional office resulting in arrest of "eight cadres" and seizure of arms, incriminating documents and properties.
Meanwhile, the 24-hour total bandh in Naga Areas of Manipur called by the United Naga Council (UNC) from July 15 midnight passed off without any untoward incidents.
The bandh was imposed to protest against what the UNC termed as the "unabated communal actions and policies of the Government of Manipur" and to urge the Government of India to expedite its intervention for an alternative arrangement.
