Manipur's Independence from British rule commemorated

Imphal, August 14 2014 : Independence of Manipur from the British colonial yoke on 14 August 1947 was commemorated at a function organized by Custom and Traditional Celebration Committee held at Gandhi Memorial Hall here today.

During the celebration function marking Manipur's independence from the British rule, Councilor of Thoubal Municipal Council H.Jamuna, Chairman of ICM and President MSCU L.Tompishak, Chairman of Council of Higher secondary education Manipur Dr.Hamom Naba, Managing Director of HV construction materials pvt ltd H.Vikramjit, President CTCC and Founder Meitei Layeng Dr..NIbohal and Chief Advosir of CTCC and national awardee Mangisana took the dais as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, H.Jamuna said, "Dirty in the streets may be removed easily, but filthy in the mind cannot be easily cleaned".

Maintaining that positive thinking is required for bringing about unity and love, she stressed the need for sincere love to bring about integrity between the people of the hills and the valley.

Citing that Meiteis and Kukis have remained as brothers and sisters from early times, Rose Mangshi expressed confidence that the two communities would never depart from each other.

She called upon all concerned to live and die unitedly for Manipur, while maintaining that 'we are children of the same mother'.

During the commemoration, noted scholar Padmashri Dr..MKriti delivered a lecture on 'Indo-Manipur War 1891, while W.Indira, Treasurer of CTCC spoke on the topic "Manipur Independence from British, 14 August 1947" .

As part of the function, presidium member Mangisana exhibited the flags used from the time of Chandrakiti Maharaj to the reign of Maharaj Bodhachandra, who was the last king of Manipur during the British regime.

A book titled "Meitei Traditional Medicine and Adarsh" was also released during the function which was marked by presentation of gifts to selected cultural activists and artists of Manipur.

A two minute silence was observed in respect of the great warriors of Manipur.

The celebration was also marked by presentation of songs and martial arts of Manipur.
