6th State Level Pineapple Fest concludes

Imphal, July 14 2013:
The 5-day long State Level Pineapple Fair cum Youth Festival, 2013, which was going on at Thambalnu Market, Poiroupat Lamkhai concluded today with Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai closing the Pineapple House.
The closing function was graced by Minister AK Mirabai and MLA Nemcha Kipgen as Chief Guest and President respectively.
MLA Th Shyamkumar and his wife Th Babita were also present as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Shyamkumar assured that a processing machine which could produce pineapple juice and powder at the same time will be bought and hand over to the pineapple farmers of Andro A/C by next year.
Installation of the machine which cost around 40 lakhs will encourage the farmers to produce more pineapple and this will help in generation of income of the farmers, the MLA said.
While informing that the State Government would be pressed to upgrade Azad Higher Secondary School.
A Schedule Caste Girl's Hostel will also be established by next year.
Minister AK Mirabai, while speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, expressed delight over organizing such Pineapple Festival with an aim to create a source of income for the pineapple farmers and exhorted that we all should come together to bring about economic development in the State.
She also informed that the State Government is planning to set up a number of Cold Storage building in the State.
If the plan of the State Government is fulfilled the farmers of the State will be benefitted to a large extent.
In addition to this, the State Government is also planning to convince the MLAs to contribute some amount from their Local Area Development Fund for Tree Plantation drive in different parts of the State.
Altogether 160 stalls participated in the festival during which 6000 quintals of pineapples were put up for display and sale to the visitors.
