Pineapple fair concludes

The 6th State Level Pineapple Fair cum Youth Festival, organised by Development Organisation Andro Kendra (DOAK) under the sponsorship of Horticulture Mission for North East States and Himalayan Region, has concluded at historic Andro Thambalnu market today.
The fair witnessed pineapple production of over 300 MT in 160 stalls and cultural presentations from 150 different troupes.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai and Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen attended the closing function as chief guest and president respectively.
Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar and social worker Th Babita were also present at the occasion as guest of honour and special guest respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, AK Mirabai said that MLA Th Shyamkumar has been putting in effort to eradicate poverty like former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi did.
The Minister also assured that she would extend all possible assistance to enhance economic condition of women of the area.
Nemcha Kipgen while speaking at the function expressed her desire to organise similar fairs at different parts of the State.
She also said that the festival provided an easy opportunity to sell their produce.
Th Shyamkumar said that the festival was organised with an aim to promote pineapple cultivation.
He also thanked all concerned and Horticulture Mission for extending assistance in setting up a food processing plant at Andro.
Under an ambitious plan to export pineapple products to other States and countries, Shyamkumar said, efforts would be put in to set up a fruit powder manufacturing plant before next year's fair.
