Two constables of Waikhong Police Station in plain clothes reportedly robbed three fish traders in the guise of Police Commandos on the night of July 29 last.

According to sources, the incident happened at around 8.30 pm on July 29 when three fish traders namely Konsam Sunder of Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Ahongsangbam Ibungo and Ahongsangbam Jarma, both of Charangpat Maning Leikai were returning in a four-wheeler vehicle from Sugnu after selling fish.
However, they were stopped by two persons in plain clothes at Waikhong Keithel.
They identified themselves as Commandos posted at Waikhong.
They said that they had received information about transportation of illegal goods in their vehicle and they wanted to check the vehicle.
After checking the vehicle, the two police personnel demanded some pocket money from them.
The traders gave Rs.50 to them, but one of the police personnel snatched the wallet and took away Rs.3800 .
They even threatened to burn down the vehicle.
Suspecting the police personnel, the traders drove into Waikhong Police Station and made a complaint.
One Sub-Inspector helped them in tracing the looters.
Later, the two police personnel were found along with one officer Suresh Anthony of the Police Station.
The traders came to know that the alleged looters were constables Md Sanjay Khan and M Ibotomba.
Instead of helping them, the police even detained them at the Station.
One Second OC asked them if they wanted their money back or filed a complaint against the two constables.
He kept one condition that if they (traders) filed the complaint, they would be detained along with their vehicle.
The traders chose to get back their money.
The officer then returned the money and warned them not to disclose the incident to others.
Their signatures were also taken by the police on blank papers.
The aggrieved traders have drawn the attention of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister to take punitive action against the erring police personnel of Waikhong Police Station.
