Workshop on Hep-C held

Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) with the support of Coalition PLUS today organised media consultation workshop on Hep-C at Hotel Imphal, North AOC .
Speaking at the occasion, Giten Khwairakpam, Community and Policy Project Manager, TREAT Asia, Bangkok said that there are about 71 million people infected with Hep-C.However, just 5 percent of them have awareness on the disease.
As such, the need is felt about spreading awareness of the disease .
Pointing out that persons with Hep-C infection can be treated, Giten Khwairakpam urged all concerned not to conceal the disease .
Giten said that about 8 million people in India are infected with Hep-C.Punjab and Haryana Govts are providing free Hep-C test and treatment facilities.
Giten also expressed strong optimism that Manipur Govt will follow suit in providing free Hep-C test and treatment facilities .
Giten further said that the cost of treatment of Hep-C infected patients is now reduced to a large extent .
Other speakers of the programme included RK Nalinikanta, president CoNE, Ng Babusaheb, Chitra Ahanthem of CoNE.
