Kangpokpi, June 29 2017:
The State Government has started the process of cleaning the drainage along NH-2, after news reports of how the reprehensible drainage leads to the large scale damage of National Highway-2 started hitting the newspapers .
The improper drainage system along the Imphal-Dimapur road more particularly along the 60 kilometers road from the State capital to Kangpokpi DHQs and Senapati DHQs had impacted on NH-2 leading to many damages on the road inconveniencing vehicular movements along the highway .
The soil erosion and minor landslide on the drainage alongside the highway resulted in water overflowing on to the surface of the road causing unexpected damage to the highway.
Considering the importance of maintaining the highway drainage, the State Government began cleaning the drainage along NH-2 engaging JCBs and tippers since the past few days and the cleaning process has crossed Sapormeina and reached Bimparao in Kangpokpi district .
The drainage within Kangpokpi along NH-2 is mostly filled by silts due to the soil brought down from the mountain side and minor landslide while some portions of the drainage have also been completely filled up with earth leading to complete disappearance of the drainage in some stretches .
Local denizens across the area where the drainage cleaning has been completed expressed sincere gratitude to the State Government for the efforts in maintaining the highway drainage and conveyed their hope that the Government would conduct such cleansing exercise at least twice a year.
