Blind school students call off stir

Imphal, June 29 2017:
Due to timely intervention by Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen, the agitation by students of Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat has been called off .
She attended to the grievances of the students at her office chamber, New Secretariat, Imphal in the presence of the students' representatives, Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) JC Ramthanga, officials of the department, Principal and staff of the school .
Some of their grievances included construction of new toilets, proper infrastructure, furniture and water reservoir with clean drinking water .
She assured that all their demands will be taken care of immediately and gave a minimum time of one month to fulfil their grievances .
For time being, she assured the demands for separate toilets for boys and girls and pointed out that the construction of low cost toilet will begin by tomorrow itself .
Issues of electricity supply was immediately resolved today itself by Joint Director (Social Welfare), Surrender A Shishak by paying the electric bills of Rs 10,000 from her own pocket .
Nemcha stated that she welcomes the genuine grievances of the students anytime and appealed the students to go hand in hand with their teachers by giving them utmost respect .
There is nothing in this world that cannot be sorted out through proper communication and interaction, she added .
During the interaction with the Minister, the students' representatives expressed that their agitation was towards the school authority for not taking up their grievances to the authority concerned and higher officials at the right time .
The students expressed gratitude towards Nemcha Kipgen for listening to them and for timely intervention.
