One day media workshop held

A one day rural media workshop programme to spread awareness about the various Central sponsored schemes and flagship programmes implemented for the welfare of the people was held at the conference hall of the Institute of Cooperative Management today under the aegis of Press Information Bureau .
Director of DIPR, K Meghachandra, Station Director, AIR Imphal, Dilip Mayengbam, Poknapham Manipuri Editor A Robindro and Media and Communication officer L Premlata attended the inaugural function of the workshop as presidium members .
Speaking at the event, L Premlata said that the media workshop is the second of its kind held at the State level as earlier it used to be organised at New Delhi by inviting the editors of various media houses to the workshop .
The main objective of the workshop is to spread awareness about the various schemes and flagship programmes taken up by the Ministry so that the media persons can effectively and efficiently disperse the information to the masses .
A Robindro said that as a reporter, it is very important to have thorough knowledge about the various schemes and programmes .
Dilip Mayengbam stressed on the critical role played by newspaper agencies and media persons in the society as they act as a bridge between the Government and the public and also in highlighting whether these schemes have been fully implemented by the authority concerned for the welfare of the people .
A technical session was also held during the one day workshop after the inaugural function .
Speaking on the topic of Mission Indradhanush, Dr Nandakishore, State Immunization Officer of Mission Indradhanush, said that the mission was launched with the aim of providing immunization for diptheria, whooping cough, tetanus, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B to children under the age of 2 years and pregnant women .
In addition to these, vaccine for Japanese Encephalitis and haemophilus influenza type B have also been provided in select States and the mission includes four new vaccine, inactivated polio vaccine, adult Japanese Encephalitis vaccine, rotavirus vaccine and measles rubella vaccine, he added .
Khongendra Khomdram, Manipuri Editor of The Sangai Express, spoke on the topic of role of media in crisis management and elaborated on the various hardships and difficulties faced by the media persons during crisis in the society or the State .
He also appealed to the officials concerned to provide information about the respective incidents when approached by media persons and to give actual detailed reports else the media persons have to go through the difficult and time consuming task of collecting the necessary information from other angles .
He further urged all the media houses to avoid issues which can spark tension among various communities in case it is published or telecast and also appealed to all individuals and organisations not to report sensational issues in a one sided manner .
CDPO Kangpokpi Ch Budhachandra spoke on the topic of Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao, Assistant Agriculture officer, State soil testing laboratory, Porompat, L Sanatomba on Swasth Bharat Kheth Hara and ex Editor, Janata Daily, L Iboyaima on Pradhan Mantri Awaj Yojna housing for all (Urban) .
An interaction cum question and answer session was also held after the technical session.
