Operated twice, man fails to walk

In an apparent case of medical negligence in the State, a man who was operated twice for inserting a metal rod in his broken thigh bone is still unable to walk since the last four years .
The aggrieved man Khundongbam Jayanta @ Ito (47) s/o (L) Luker of Awang Potsangbam Khullen, a Havildar of 5th IRB was returning home from work when his Suzuki Access scooter he was riding collided with a speeding Yamaha R15 motorbike at Koirengei on July 6, 2013 .
His left thigh bone was fractured in the road accident .
Talking to The Sangai Express, Kh Jayanta who is bedridden said that he consulted a doctor of Kwakeithel, who was working at RIMS at that time for surgery .
He said that as per the advice of the doctor, he was operated in Imphal Hospital on July 10 incurring an operation charges of Rs 1.50 lakh .
"Despite the operation, I could not walk.
When the doctor was consulted about my pitiable condition, I was told that there had been a mistake in the operation," he said.
According to him, he was also told by the doctor that another operation was required if he wants to walk properly or else get treatment outside the State .
As his family's financial condition was not in a position to seek treatment outside the State, Jayanta consulted another doctor from Singjamei with the hope of swift recovery .
The doctor operated upon him in September 2016 with an operation fees of around Rs 1 lakh .
"Shockingly, I was again told that there had been a mistake in the operation", Jayanta said .
He said that the doctor suggested him to undergo another surgery or do the same outside the State if he wishes to do so.
Expressing anguish over the two doctors, he claimed that their negligence made him suffer a lot .
He also alleged that Heingang police have not properly investigated the accident case .
Jayanta also said that he could not get medical reimbursement .
Jayanta's wife Babita who is looking after the family by working at a sand quarry said that the two doctors were requested to extend financial assistance to perform another surgery but the call was turned down .
The couple have two sons and one daughter.
One of their sons is studying outside the State.
