325 companies of Para military forces to be deployed for Assembly elections

Around 325 companies of Central Para Military forces are likely to be deployed for the State Assembly election which has been scheduled on January 28, 2012 informed PC Lawmkunga, Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur.
Addressing media persons at the Secretariat's conference hall, PC Lawmkunga said that since the Election Commission of India has declared that the Manipur Legislative Assembly election will be held on January 28, the model code of conduct has also come into force with immediate effect.
He further said that the notification for the 10th State Assembly election will be issued on January 4, 2012 .
The last date for filling nominations is January 11, 2011 and the scrutiny of nominations will be on January 12.Last date of withdrawal of candidature is January 14 .
He also said that since the election code of conduct is in force the candidates of all the political parties will not be allowed to use the power of his official position.
All Ministers and MLA are also prohibited from using official visits with their political campaigns, they are also prohibited from using official machinery and personnel in the election campaign.
Use of official vehicles and personnel in the interest of the party in power except under certain terms and conditions, election related advertisement in media and related news coverage, grants and payments from the Minister's discretionary fund, ad hoc appointments, foundation stone laying and inauguration of projects are prohibited as the model code of conduct has come into effect, he added.
He further said that election related crimes will be minutely observed.
For this a Police observer not below the rank of DIG has been appointed.
But uptill now no complain against any election related crimes have been filed.
The work of the Expenditure Monitoring Committee for inspecting the expenditures of the candidates will start from January 8.Actions will also been taken up against those government officials and police personnel if there are complaints of favouring the ruling candidate.
Replying to a query, the CEO said that adequate security forces will be deployed in all the polling stations in the hill districts of the state to counter any unwanted happenings.
The video camera installed in the polling station will monitor the occurring of proxy votes.
He further stated that the process for the production of Electoral Photo Identity card has been almost completed.
There are around 24,000 voters who are enrolled in the electoral roll but without a photo.
The process for taking the photos of voters will commence from tomorrow.
All those voters without a photo will have to submit their photos by January 5.The voters ID cards will be issued by January 10 .
A coordination meeting of the PWD, Transport, Electricity, Police and Income Tax which will be chaired by the Chief Secretary, in relation with the coming Assembly election will also be held, he added.
