Imphal, December 26 2011:
Public Health Engineering Department Workers and Employees' Organisation, Manipur (PHEDWEOM) has suspended its agitation of stopping the water supply with effect from yesterday.
Employees of the Organisation stopped supplying water to the public since December 16 in protest over the incident of killing Chowkidar of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme Soram Ibomcha and his son, Yaiphu after being abducted by armed cadres of KCP (MTF) Kesho Meitei group in connection with monetary demand of Rs 20 lakh from the Department.
In a statement, President of PHEDWEOM B Gunamani Sharma informed that the decision to suspend the stir has been taken in consideration of the difficulties being faced by the public and the festive season.
Gunamani observed that the government should be held responsible in case of any problem while resuming water supply, and appealed to all UG groups to restrain from causing disturbance in smooth discharge duty by the employees.
