Mishaps claim 2, inferno razes houses

In unrelated incidents two motorcyclists have been killed while a house has been reduced to cinders in a devastating fire that broke out at a Langol Tarung locality, under Lamphel police station.
According to police report, one James (30) of Nongdam Tangkhul village was killed when a mini truck rammed at the motor-cycle borne man at Nongren Mayai Leikai under Lamlai police station at around 1.30 pm today.
another accident occurred around the same time this afternoon at Khagempali area under Imphal West district leading to the death of one Md Salman Hussein (20) of Lilong Bazar on the spot.
Salman, a student of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur was reportedly on a motorcycle when a speeding truck hit him.
Meanwhile, atleast two houses and properties estimated to be worth about Rs 8 lakhs have been destroyed by a fire that ravaged a rented quarter at Langol Tarung village at around 7.15 am today.
It is informed that the rented quarter belongs to Tarung village chief Raisong Panmei.
source of the fire is suspected to be electric short-circuit in the rented room, which was locked as the occupants were on vacation.
Arrival of fire service department personnel prevented spread of the blaze to adjoining houses.
There is no report of injury.
