Imphal, June 20 2010:
The 'JAC against the discrimination of kom community in exercising their voting rights in 20/Sagang ADC Constituency' has cautioned that in case authorities concerned do not order enquiry and re-polling of the said polling station as had been demanded through relay hunger strike since June 15 at Sagang Bazar, the Kom people would be compelled to launch non-cooperation movement against the Government of manipur, including boycott of the ongoing Census 2010 .
A JAC statement issued by its secretary L Thakpu Kom informed that the relay hunger strike is being sustained to protest denial of voting rights of the Kom electorates by supporters of an independent candidate belonging to the Kuki tribe when ADC repolling was held at Dampi and Saiton Khullen polling stations of 20/Sagang DCC seat in Churachandpur district on May 31 .
The JAC also alleged that an individual along with two accomplices showed up at Moirang Mantak village and forcibly extracted signatures of Kom voters apparently to lay claim that Kom voters had cast their votes at Saiton khullen polling station.
The decision for the proposed non-cooperation movement has been taken as the State Government and the State election Commission have not taken any positive step for fulfilling demands of the JAC even after intervention of the Governor of manipur on the matter, the JAC statement added.
