Rice, pulses and other eatable items have been handed over to authorities of Orphan Children home, Kanglatongbi by functionaries of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee today with the Committee president MLA M Prithiviraj advising the inmates comprising of children of various communities to foster peaceful coexistence.
The first orphanage of manipur established in 1947/48, the Kanglatongbi centre provides shelter and education to about 60 children belonging to the Nepali, Meitei, Kuki and Poumai communities as well as some from Arunachal Pradesh.
The material assistance, consisting of two rice bags, one bag pulses, a bag of potato, salt packages and other eatables, was provided to the orphanage centre to commemorate birth anniversary of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Officials of the Home expressed profound gratitude to the humane gesture of the Youth Congress delegation in extending help to the centre as the Home management had become an arduous task as a consequence of the impact of prolonged economic blockade.
Interacting with the children, MLA Prithiviraj said upon getting information that the inmates had been facing difficulties due to imposition of economic blockade the Youth Congress endeavoured to provide the assistance so as to coincide with Rahul Gandhi's birth anniversary.
While conceding that people of Manipur had been besieged with social instability for a long time as inimical elements had been attempting to create divisions in the society, the Moirang Assembly Constituency legislator upon observing tranquillity in the centre exuded confidence that peace will return in Manipur very soon.
