Imphal, June 17 2012:
Manipur Intellectual Forum today formed a People's Price Monitoring Committee to check artificial price rise in the state and take up necessary actions against such arbitrary price hike.
Announcing this in a press conference at the office of Marxism Learning Centre, RIMS Road, President of the Forum, Ch Gopalmacha said that prices of essential commodities in the state are very high as compared to other states.
In order to form the Committee, the Forum invited representatives from various CSOs and hold a meeting yesterday.
Representatives of Senior Citizens for Society, All Manipur Bar Associaton, Irabot Commemoration Research Committee, All Manipur Students' Guardians' Organisation and other CSOs attended the meeting.
After a thorough discussion, the meeting resolved to set up the Committee and appointed President of Senior Citizens for Society N Binoy as the President of the committee, Gopalmacha informed, adding that other members of the Committee would be appointed soon.
Another meeting of the Committee would also be convened very soon to appoint the remaining members and finalise the course of action to be taken up, he disclosed.
The state government is not taking the issue of forming a Price Fixation Committee.
In this regard, the Committee would press the government to form the Price Fixation Committee, Gopalmacha said, and appealed to the people of the state not to file any PIL in this regard against the government stating that this might slow down the process of forming the Committee.
He pointed out that businessmen in the states are charging whatever price they felt from the consumers of the state, thus giving a direct blow to the poor people.
On the other hand, the government is turning a blind eye into the matter.
In order to secure a place for the state in the fast pace globalization, people of the state should unite and take up necessary actions to develop industrial and business sector, he noted.
W Priyokumar, General Secretary of the Manipur Intellectual Forum also attended the press meet.
