Imphal, June 17 2012:
One 43-year old Maibam (O) Mema of Langol Type II is reportedly in a serious condition at JNIMS Hospital following repeated diagnostic goof-up at a private medical centre.
According to Mema's daughter M Kinkee, her mother was taken to RIMS OPD on May 23 following complaints of acute pain in the abdomen.
Even as the consulting doctors at the RIMS OPD advised for ultrasound of the painful abdomen area, Mema complained of severe pain following which she was immediately taken to Imphal Hospital, RIMS Road.
The consultant doctor at the private medical centre claimed that the pain was due to advanced stage of appendicitis for which operation was necessary, said Kingkee while speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today.
Even though Mema underwent surgical operation at the said medical centre on May 29, one doctor S Rajendro informed the family members that no appendicitis could be detected.
Rather intestinal tuberculosis was cited for the 45-year old's painful sensation, narrated Kingkee while disclosing that TB test conducted on her mother three days later also turned out to be negative.
Inspite of the negative result, the private centre doctor insisted on another round of operation following which a slice of inner body part was referred for testing to assess cause of Mema's problem.
With the test also failing to detect any internal disease and subsequently leading to her discharge on June 3 Mema's pain continued to persist finally prompting the family members to consult Dr Lokeshore of Khoyathong, said the daughter.
On the advice of Dr Lokeshore another test was conducted at Babina Clinic which also could not detect any ailment, she maintained and conveyed that the doctor suspecting the problem to be stone case prescribed some medicines which too failed to provide any form of relief to her mother.
As the pain refused to go away Mema was reportedly taken to JN Hospital on June 14 where examination revealed that Mema's appendicitis was intact contrary to the Imphal Hospital doctor having informed the family members that it had been removed.
Contending that negligence by the private medical centre doctor has aggravated her mother's health, Kingkee asserted that in case of further deterioration in her mother's condition Dr Rajendro would be held responsible.
