COPTAM opposes to civic polls

Imphal, June 17 2012:
A Central executive meeting of Committee on Protection of Tribal Affairs Manipur (COPTAM) held at Lamphel has resolved to prevent holding of Panchayat/Minicipality elections in hill areas where ADCs are already in force.
In the meeting COPTAM re-affirmed its stand on the issues raised by them and adopted several resolutions.
The meeting strongly condemned the different attitude of the state towards its legitimate and rightful demands.
All those who are present at the occasion also maintained that it is highly unbecoming of a Government to neglect the letter sent by National Commission for Scheduled tribes over the issue.
The meeting also resolved to prevent holding of Panchayati/Municipality Elections in hill areas where ADCs are already in force and not to allow any Government officials or employees to participate in such elections and warned all the tribals against involving in the in the election process.
Lastly, the meeting decided to renew their course of actions very soon in consultation with all the Tribal apex bodies.
Accordingly, the meeting appealed to all the social and student's organization as well as other individuals to support the cause of COPTAM.
