Key deadlines fixed for Panchayat elections

Even as the State Election Commission today fixed key deadlines for the elections to 165 Panchayats in the state, a meeting of the sub-committee of Hills Area Committee has been convened on June 23 at 11 am at the Members' Room, Old Assembly Secretariat to discuss and review overlapping of boundaries of District Councils and Panchayats.
After the state government notified for holding the elections to 165 Panchayats in the state on September 13 next, the State Election Commission fixed key datelines for the election process.
Sources received by Hueiyen Lanpao confirmed that the draft electoral roll for voters would be released on June 28 and the last date for claiming objection is July 7 .
After that, the final publication of electoral rolls would be done on July 17 .
Election notifications would be circulated on July 27 and last date for filing nomination papers would be August 3 .
Scrutiny would be done on August 4 and withdrawal of nomination can be carried out till August 7 .
Informing that the elections to the Panchayats would be conducted on September 13, sources said that in case of re-poll, it would be carried out on September 15 and counting would be conducted on September 17 .
All processes related to the Panchayat elections would be completed on September 22 .
Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat would cease to exist and merge into Khurkhul Gram Panchayat while Kalapahar, Santinagar, Paramel and Koubru Laikha would be out of the Panchayat Elections since they have been included under ADC.
In Imphal East too, Nongkangching, Mahao Ching, Gaihang New Chayang, Heingang Ching and Kasu Ching would be out of the election as they were also included in the ADC elections, sources added.
On the other hand, with the government of Manipur notifying September 13 as the date for holding the Panchayat elections, a meeting of the sub-committee of Hills Area Committee has been convened on June 23 at 11 am at the Members' Room, Old Assembly Secretariat to discuss and review overlapping of boundaries of District Councils and Panchayats.
Mention may be made that Samuel Risom is the Chairman of the Sub Committee of HAC while D Korungthang, Victor Keishing, Bhujagin Bhalte and Nemcha Kipgen are its members.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Public Undertakings, Manipur Legislative Assembly would hold its first meeting on June 22 at the Committee Room of the Old Assembly Secretariat to discuss and examine the Functions and Internal Working Rules of the committee.
RK Anand is the chairman of the committee and its members are S Bira, E Chand, Kh Joykishan, P Brojen, Samuel Risom and MK Preshow.
Moreover, the Committee on Estimates, Manipur Legislative Assembly has a meeting on June 23 and 25 in the Committee Room at Old Assembly Secretariat to examine the Annual Administrative Reports and relevant documents furnished by the Departments to the Secretariat.
Dr Ng Bijoy is the chairman of the committee while Yamthong Haokip, Karam Shyam, Nunghlung Victor, Md Fajur Rahim, Thongam Biswarjit and RK Imo are its members.
