Keibul Lamjao to be main venue for Sangai Festival

After remaining suspended in the year 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic, the main event of this year's Sangai Festival will be held at Bishnupur district's Keibul Lamjao, the home of Sangai, and arrangements for smooth conduct of the festival have already begun.
A meeting in this regard attended by chief minister N Biren resolved to hold the festival at two locations, namely Keibul Lamjao and Moirang Khunou and ambassadors of many countries have been invited to attend the festival.
The main attraction of this year's Festival will at the Moirang Khunou venue wherein 35 huts of different communities will be constructed in their own traditional designs.
It is learnt that there will be intense discussions about stalls, parking lots,and VIP entrance with emphasis on keeping a healthy distance between stalls and platform for cultural events.
As per the ongoing discussion, it is likely that visitors will be permitted entry from Moirang Khunou side and exit towards Keibul side.
A unique attraction of this year's Sangai festival will also be made at the ongoing construction site atop Marjing hill in Heingang wherein a night tourism spot will be developed and pony statue at the site will be given prominence using different colour light and tents.
Apart from this, Cherry blossom festival at Mao will also be incorporated as a part of the festival.
When asked about preparations, director (tourism) W Ibohal informed The People's Chronicle that this year's Sangai Festival will be different from past editions of the tourism promotional event.
He also said that holding main events of the festival in Keibul Lamjao will be more significant and meaningful as Keibul Lamjao is the only home for Sangai and this would attract more tourists.
After remaining suspended for two years due to COVID-19 pandemic, organisers are expecting more tourists in this year's Sangai Festival, he said, adding that serious discussions are on to decide on parking lots and entry point.
