ZSUM bandh on NH-37, IT road

The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has announced a total bandh along NH-37 and IT Road (Kpi-Tamei) with effect from 5pm of June 1 till midnight of June 2 to protest the incomplete construction of suspension (bailey) bridge over Barak River in between Dikiuram and Katang in Tamenglong district and negligence of KhongsangTamenglong stretch of the highway.
A statement issued by the ZSUM today lambasted the alleged indifferent attitude of the Government to development works in the hill areas.
It lamented that construction of the Suspension bridge connecting Dikiuram and Katang was initiated five years back.
The Zeliangrong students' body also asked why the suspension bridge construction of which was started five years back could not be completed till date while the Serou bridge was completed within two years.
Demanding the termination of the incompetent and 'corrupt, engineers and officials of PWD, NEC Div-II for the delay in the construction and the incapability to maintain quality, the students' body warned of taking up more stringent form of agitations in case their demands are not heeded to.
It further demanded that construction of the bailey bridge be completed with quality in conformity with the technical expert and expansion of the district highway stretching from Khongsang to Tamenglong be expedited immediately.
