Valour of Meira Paibis recounted on their day

The Meira Paibi Observation Committee observed the 14th Meira Paibi Day at Tharo Devi ground, Khurai Salanthong today.
The function was graced by Prof Ksh Bimola of Manipur University and Memchoubi, President of AMKIL as Chief Guest and President respectively, Sushila, President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi; Ibetombi, President of WASHAK and Leirik Leima, President of KANGLAMEI were also present as Guests of Honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ksh Bimola said that the women in Manipuri society have suffered a lot down the ages.
Yet the courage and determination of Manipuri women have never faded.
The courage and determination of Manipuri women can be seen during the Nupi Lal where they fought against the mighty British.

It is because of the role played by Manipuri women during various hardships faced by the state that they could live with their heads held high.
The women of this society cannot tolerate the crimes committed against their kinswomen.
So, they have come out protection and safeguard their own rights and gradually Meira Paibi movement came into being, she added.
Prof Ksh Bimola further observed that recognizing the role and contribution of women in any society, International Women's day is also being observed worldwide.
This was also a move for emancipation of women.
Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Jano Begum and LS Guite who were also among others who spoke at the occasion.
As a part of the observation, floral tributes were offered as a mark of respect to the departed soul of Pyari.
Participants also stressed on the need to construct a memorial tomb for the Meira Paibis of Manipur at Khurai Salanthong where the memorial remains of Pyari were laid to rest.
