Minister fetes NDA cadet, announces reward for Mirabai

Imphal, July 25 2021:
Education and fisheries minister S Rajen Singh has announced Rs 3 lakh cash incentive for Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu as a token of honour and encouragement for her outstanding achievement in the ongoing Tokyo Summer Olympics, 2020 .
The minister made the announcement during a felicitation programme of Namoijam Naoba Meitei, who secured 27th in the UPSC conducted National Defence Academy examination 2021, at his Salam, Imphal West district residence on Sunday.
Rajen said that the laurel brought by Mirabai Chanu has inspired all the young sportspersons of the state.
It is indeed an exceptional moment of pride for the state and the country, he exclaimed and informed that cash incentive will be handed over to Mirabai Chanu as soon as she returns to the state.
The reward is to be sponsored by the education department, Government of Manipur.
During the reception function of Naoba Meitei, minister Rajen said that securing 27th rank in the all India competitive exams is not an easy task.
Such achievers from a small state like Manipur should be encouraged by all.
They may be set as a model example for the future aspirants, he said.
Rajen also handed over Rs 30,000 to Naoba for his journey expenditure for training.
Naoba was born and brought up at Khonghampat Khunou.
He is the son of N Naran and N (Ongbi) Premila Leima and studied at Sainik School Imphal from class VI standard.
He also has outstanding achievements in the fields of sports and other co-curricular activities.
Naoba credited his achievement to his teachers and parents, support.
Sprayer pumps to be used by the farmers of Lamsang A/C were also distributed during the programme which attended by Zila Parishad member, Awangkhunou ZP, pradhans, presidents of BJP mandals of Lamsang, local leaders and workers.
